  • The Classical City

Following the first chapter of the doctoral thesis, a studio on the Classical City –Rome and Timgad- was initiated.
Ten studied topics were analyzed and ‘coupled’ according to their socioeconomic connotations: the typological evolution of the Roman Classical system; the technological triumph of the arch and the classical orders; the Roman thermae and the rational planning of the city; the Basilica and the political project of Rome; the Colosseum and the social representation of the Roman Empire.

Students were asked to research the political and economic implications of architecture by drawing them in detail, with today’s technological tools. The examples then become explicit evidence of the managerial project of the city.
